Nature seems to be all over my work but actually it is about anti- nature, It's about the things we associate with nature but have created ourselves, it's about culture.
In our culture, nature occupies a strange place. This is something that fascinates me but is also confusing.
The dominant position that we have towards nature is, of course, an illusion. We are told that we have ruined nature and that we have to fix it. Again, I have double feelings about this.
Of course we want the romantic image of nature back but can we really bend it to our will?
When I look around me I only see a weak version of something that was once wild and that's what attracts my attention. Grafting, cuttings and pruning are therefore frequent themes in my work. And I do wonder about the unnatural way plants grow when humans have interfered and the resilience of plants to survive
